Middleburg Steak House eyes April reopening

The reopening date for Middleburg Steak and Seafood House has been delayed until April as construction to repair damage from a fire last May continues. The Daily Dispatch had reported in November that husband-and-wife owners Bennie and Lisa Blackwell were aiming to reopen the steakhouse in mid-February.

North Carolina angler Dale Lowe Jr. just missed breaking the world record with this 141.76 pound blue catfish caught in the waters near Clarksville, Virginia on Saturday afternoon during the annual Icebowl Catfish Tournament. The big fish was less than a pound and a quarter shy of catching the world record for bluecat.

Kerr Lake Parks to Get $3.75 Million

Kerr Lake State Park in North Carolina will soon get a $3,750,00 upgrade. Voters approved a bond package in March 2016, called “Connect NC,” that includes the money for the eight access areas around the lake’s shoreline.

Woman talked out of jumping off [Clarksville] bridge

A Buffalo Junction woman who threatened to jump off the U.S. 58 Bypass bridge in Clarksville was convinced not to go through with the suicide attempt Thursday night by first responders at the scene. The high bridge over Buggs Island Lake was closed for more than two hours around 10 p.m. as Virginia State Police and others negotiated with the woman as she clung to the bridge guardrail.

Preliminary readings provided by the National Weather Service indicate the Lake Gaston and Kerr Lake area got between four and eight inches of snow during the January 6th and 7th storm. Light snow is still falling in the eastern part of that area but is expected to end early this afternoon (1/7/17).

Local talent to dance in 'The Nutcracker'

The lifting on the moratorium coincides with the approval of the 2016 Shoreline Management Plan.
