1. Black Bass (Largemouth and Smallmouth): With stable water levels and warm, sunny days, bass are active in shallow to mid-depth waters. Look for them around rocky points, fallen trees, and grass beds in 2-6 feet of water. Topwater lures like buzzbaits and whopper ploppers are producing early morning bites, while soft plastics worked slowly around structure are effective throughout the day.
2. Crappie: Crappie are still hitting over brushpiles and around bridge pilings in 6-12 feet of water. Small minnows or tube jigs fished vertically are key. Focus on shaded areas and structure near dropoffs for best results.
3. Striper (Striped Bass): Schools of breaking stripers are being spotted along the main channel, especially between Buoy 16 and the Clarksville Bridge, and near Bluestone Creek. Trolling Cordell Redfins and Rebel FasTrak minnows along the river channel is producing some quality catches. Fish are chasing shad schools, so using shallow running crankbaits or spoons can be effective.
4. White Bass: White bass are active around creek mouths and coves, often taking trolled small white crankbaits, inline spinners, and inline jigs. They are prevalent in the 2-4 pound range and can be found schooling near shallow points and rocky areas.
Conditions remain favorable for anglers, with consistent warm weather and light winds. The water temperature is ideal for surface activity and feeding, so take advantage of early mornings and late afternoons for topwater action. Keep an eye on structure and dropping water temperatures as the season transitions, and enjoy the excellent fishing opportunity Kerr Lake offers this time of year. Tight lines and good luck!
