1. Striper: With stable water levels and clear sunny conditions, stripers are starting to move into shallower waters, especially during early mornings and late evenings. Look for them around points and creek mouths near baitfish schools, using live shad or cut bait for best results.
2. Bass: Largemouth and spotted bass are actively feeding in the back of creeks and coves, particularly around rocky banks and submerged wood. Using spinnerbaits, soft plastics like worms and creature baits, and topwater lures early or late in the day can yield good catches.
3. Crappie: Crappie are holding near brushpiles, submerged structures, and around bridge pilings in 6-10 feet of water. Minnows fished slowly over these structures are producing consistent bites.
4. White Bass: Schools of white bass are beginning to gather in the mouths of creeks and along main lake points. Trolling small silver crankbaits or spinnerbaits around these areas can produce action, with fish ranging up to four pounds.
5. Catfish: Flathead and blue cats are active in deeper channels and near creek mouths, often taking cut bait or live bait during the evening hours. Trolling or bottom fishing around deeper drop-offs can be productive.

As we move into mid-October, calm and sunny weather typically favors shallow and mid-depth fishing. Keep an eye on baitfish activity, which often indicates where game fish are feeding. The lake’s conditions are conducive to productive fishing, so anglers should find good opportunities across species. Stay adaptable, fish smart, and enjoy the exciting fall bite at Kerr Lake!
