1. Black Bass: With the current cold front and snow cover, bass are likely to be sluggish but still active in the deeper structure, particularly around points and rocky bottoms in 6-8 feet of water. Slow presentations with jigs, soft plastics, or crankbaits are recommended, especially near the creek channels and submerged humps.
2. Crappie: Crappie are probably holding tight to brushpiles and creek channels, especially in protected coves. Using small minnows or tube jigs fished vertically over known cover can yield good results as they seek shelter from the cold.
3. Stripers: Striper activity is generally slow during cold snaps, but they may be found near the bottom in 8-15 feet of water, especially around creek mouths and humps. Using cut shad or live bait slowly trolled near the bottom might entice a bite.
4. Walleye/Saugeye: If targeted, these species may be active during low-light periods or on cloudy days, holding near rocky or gravel bottoms in the 10-15 foot range. Jigs and minnows are effective options.

This week’s weather and water conditions suggest the fish are in their winter patterns—still accessible but less aggressive than during warmer months. Patience and slow, deliberate presentations will be key. Keep an eye on the water temperature, as slight increases could trigger some movement. Stay safe, dress warmly, and enjoy the tranquility of Kerr Lake this winter season!
