1. Striped Bass: Active and moving upriver as the spawning run begins. Target live shad near Nutbush Creek, Palmer’s Point, and below Kerr Dam during generation. Medium depths around 15-25 feet and current edges are productive.
2. Largemouth Bass: In pre-spawn mode, holding shallow around flooded willow bushes, riprap, and buckbrush on main lake points. Use spinnerbaits, Speed Shads, and plastic grubs. Flip jig ‘n pig or crayfish imitations into brush in creek pockets as the sun rises.
3. Crappie: Crappie are staging for spawn on brushpiles in 8-10 feet of water. Fish small jigs or live minnows over submerged brush and around bridge pilings for good action.
4. White Bass: Concentrate between Bluestone Creek and the upper lake. Cast small Shad Raps or Sassy Shads near creek channels and main lake points during mid-day.
5. Catfish: Best bites come from chicken livers or cut shad fished near creek mouths and dam tailwaters.
Clear, cool weather with light winds is providing excellent sight and water clarity, helping fish hold in predictable spots. As the water temperature edges above 50˚, expect bass and crappie to become more active in shallow cover. Stripers continue their annual migration upriver, so plan to fish live shad around current breaks and dam releases. Early morning and late afternoon offer the best bass action in flooded brush and willow stands. Overall, conditions are favorable for a productive week on Kerr Lake—get out early and enjoy the spring bite!
